Udemy|Process Flowchart and Process Mapping|Basic|Part 2

1. Swimlances

1.1 Concept

Swimlance are a symbol within a process flowchart. You put process task and other symbols into the swimlanes base on who is responsible for doing that specific task.

The full rectangle around the outside of a symbol is called the pool. The pool contains one to many swimlanes. Aswimlane is the smaller rectangle.

1.2. Example

Case 1: Pasword Reset Process

Case 2: Insurance Claim Process

1.3. Common

Don't put a specific user like name inside of the swimlance for that process flowchart. You always to use a role of a deparment.

Why? B/c any time that person leave and replacment comes in, you need to come and update this process flowchart.

2. Flowchart Levels

There is three different levels:

- Level zero is the highest level, this is the level with the least amout of detail
- Level one: drill into specific process task from level zero, explode them out into more detail
- Level two: drill into the level one process task and explode those out into more detail.

Notes: The level zero doesn't give us hardly any information as to how we can accomplish these various process tasks, but we at least know at a high level what that process.

Typing the level together:

- Level 0: Whole numbers
- Level 1: Tenths decimal place (number)
- Level 2: Hundredths decimal place (letter)
Notes: You don't generally need to do any type of numbering inside of a decision because you don't really need to explode out the decision because you don't really need to explode out the decision futher. That's just making a decsion to then explain which way the process flow needs to do.

Indicating the Start and End of a Multu-Level Flowchart

Example level 0:

Customer Transaction Process - Level 0

Note: Y
ou should do numbering after I'm done creating this particular process flow chart.

Example level 1:

Customer Transaction Process - Level 1: Place Order

Customer Transaction Process - Level 1: Charge Customer

Customer Transaction Process - Level 1: Fulfill Order

Example level 2:

Customer Transaction Process - Level 2: Great customer
